About NetEnt
NetEnt (originally Net Entertainment) was founded in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1996 and spent over two decades as one of the best-known names in online slots. It was listed on Nasdaq Stockholm for many years and built a reputation for polished graphics, clean maths and slots that were easy to understand. Many of its games are still in casino lobbies today.
Several of its games changed the industry. Gonzo's Quest (2010) introduced Avalanche, where winning symbols explode and new ones fall in, and cascading reels are now standard across the industry. Starburst (January 2012) became one of the most widely played online slots of all time. In 2011 NetEnt launched NetEnt Touch, one of the first serious mobile slot ranges. Its Mega Fortune jackpot paid €17.86 million to a Finnish player in January 2013, a Guinness world record at the time. That record was later beaten by Microgaming's Mega Moolah.
In 2020 Evolution bought NetEnt in a share deal valued at about SEK 19.6 billion (around €1.8 billion). The offer became unconditional in November 2020, NetEnt was delisted, and its live casino arm was merged into Evolution. NetEnt now runs as one of Evolution's slot brands, alongside Red Tiger, Big Time Gaming and Nolimit City. Its games are licensed through Evolution Gaming Malta Limited under Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/187/2010, and NetEnt has been licensed in the UK and New Jersey among other regulated markets.

NetEnt Signature Mechanics
- Avalanche: NetEnt's name for cascading reels. Winning symbols disappear and new ones drop into their place, and each chained win raises a multiplier. Newer games such as Spice and Aftermath add multipliers that don't reset, or that double, on top of the original idea.
- Expanding wilds with respins: in Starburst, a wild on the middle three reels fills its reel, locks, and gives a free respin, up to three times. The feature triggers often, which is why the game feels steady.
- Walking wilds: in Jack and the Beanstalk, wilds step one reel to the left on each respin until they leave the screen, paying on every step.
