Our score rewards originality and published RTPs but marks down availability: Nolimit City is less common in Asian casino lobbies than Pragmatic Play or JILI, and its extreme volatility will not suit every bankroll.
About Nolimit City
Nolimit City is a slot studio that started in Stockholm and is registered in Malta as Nolimit City Limited, with offices in St Julian's. Industry sources date its founding to 2014, and its first game, Creepy Carnival, appeared in 2015. For several years it was a niche supplier. That changed between 2020 and 2022, when Punk Rocker, Deadwood, San Quentin xWays, Fire in the Hole xBomb and Mental made it one of the most talked-about studios in the industry.
In June 2022 Evolution agreed to buy Nolimit City for €200 million upfront plus up to €140 million in earn-outs, and the deal closed on 9 August 2022. Nolimit City became Evolution's fourth slot brand after NetEnt, Red Tiger and Big Time Gaming. It still runs as a separate studio with its own style.
The studio holds a Malta Gaming Authority B2B licence (MGA/B2B/299/2015) and UK Gambling Commission remote licences, held since 2018. Its games are certified in many other regulated markets as well.
Nolimit City is best known for its "xMechanics", a family of reel modifiers with names like xWays, xNudge, xBomb, xSplit and xHole, and for very large maximum wins. Many of its slots cap out between 50,000x and 300,000x the stake. One point to know before you play: Nolimit City's themes are often dark or deliberately provocative, with asylums, prisons, executions and crude humour. Evolution itself describes the studio as known for "sometimes provocative themes". The games are clearly made for adults, and some players will find them off-putting.

Tombstone R.I.P.
RTP: 96.08% · Volatility: Insane · Max win: 300,000x
A Wild West slot with xNudge and xSplit wilds. Its xRIP feature wipes any spin that would pay less than your stake, so short-term results swing hard.
Fire in the Hole xBomb
RTP: 96.06% · Volatility: Extreme · Max win: 60,000x
A mining slot with cascades and a 6x3 grid that grows to 6x6 (46,656 ways). xBomb wilds clear space and raise the multiplier, and Lucky Wagon Spins form the bonus.
Deadwood xNudge
RTP: 96.03% · Volatility: Extreme · Max win: 13,950x
The first big xNudge hit, from 2020. Four-high Hunter wilds nudge into view and gain +1 multiplier on every nudge. It is a good introduction to the studio.
Punk Rocker
RTP: 96.01% · Volatility: High · Max win: 15,072x
Uses xWays mystery symbols, Molotov wilds and a Riot Respin, with two free spin modes. It is a little gentler than the studio's flagship titles.
Folsom Prison
RTP: 96.07% · Volatility: Insane · Max win: 75,000x
The grid expands from 16 ways to a 4-6-6-6-4 layout, with xWays, xSplit and cockroach nests. The optional xBet raises your stake to guarantee a scatter.
Mental II
RTP: 96.06% · Volatility: Insane · Max win: 99,999x
The 2025 sequel on a 3-2-3-2-3 grid. It adds xHole and an xGod feature that can award the maximum win in a single spin.
RTP, volatility and max win figures come from Nolimit City's official game pages. Mental's volatility label is from Bigwinboard. RTP can differ by operator, because studios supply some casinos with alternative RTP settings, so check the figure in the game's info screen before you play.

xMechanics Explained
Most Nolimit City slots combine several "x" modifiers. You don't need to memorise them all, but knowing the main ones makes the paytables much easier to follow:
- xWays: a mystery symbol reveals 2–4 copies of one symbol, which multiplies the number of ways to win on that spin. Infectious xWays goes further and turns every matching symbol on screen into an xWays stack.
- xNudge: a stacked wild that is only partly visible nudges into full view, and its multiplier rises by 1 with each nudge.
- xBomb: a wild that explodes, clearing nearby symbols and raising the win multiplier before the next cascade.
- xSplit: splits the symbols beside it into two, then turns into a wild. This can quickly double up high-paying symbols.
- xHole: introduced in Kenneth Must Die (2024). It pulls in surrounding symbols, spits out multiplied winning symbols that lock in place, then reshuffles the rest.
- Enhancer Cells: locked cells above and below the reels that open to reveal premium symbols, wilds or other modifiers. They appear in the San Quentin games.
- xBet: an optional higher stake, usually about +10%, that guarantees a scatter on each spin. It makes bonuses more likely, but every spin costs more.
- xGod: a rare event in newer titles such as Mental II and Supersized that can award the maximum win outright.
Most games also offer a menu of bonus buys at different prices. San Quentin xWays, for example, sells three tiers at 100x, 400x and 2,000x your stake, and the most expensive buy in Six Feet Under costs 3,000x.
Tips for Playing Nolimit City Slots
- Treat the max win as a ceiling, not a target. A 150,000x cap means the game's maths sets aside a lot of RTP for very rare events. Most bonus rounds pay far less, and many pay less than you put in.
- Size your stake for long dry spells. On extreme or insane volatility, 200–300 spins without a bonus is normal. A bankroll of at least 200 times your stake is a sensible minimum. If that feels tight, lower the stake or choose a High-volatility title like Punk Rocker.
- Be careful with bonus buys. A buy costs 100x or more, and runs of several buys that each return less than their cost are common. Bonus buys are banned in some markets, including the UK, and many Singapore-facing casinos block them while a deposit bonus is active. Read our guide to bonus buys before using one.
- Try demo mode first. The xMechanics are easier to follow after 50 free spins than from the paytable.
- Check the RTP in-game. The info screen shows which RTP version the casino is running. Our slot RTP guide explains why this matters.
- Set time and loss limits before you start. Fast games with big swings make it easy to keep chasing. Stop when you reach your limit.
